Outeniqua backpackers was the first backpackers in George. It is a great place to stop over if you want a base whilst backpacking the Garden Route.

Close to the centre of town, and opposite a top ten golf course, Outeniqua Travel Lodge offers an intimate and warm atmosphere with the smell of fresh coffee and home-grown flowers to welcome you home after a busy day.

Adventure on the Garden Route

DAY 1 - Cango Caves and ostrich riding.
The hostel offers affordable day trips in luxurious air conditioning to the Cango Caves and other attractions of the Klein Karoo.

DAY 2 - Surfing at Vic Bay.
If you’re a hotshot on a surfboard or a sand shark on a beach towel, grab a ride to the beautiful little Victoria Bay beach, which is just 15 minutes away.

DAY 3 - Mountain biking.
Catch a lift to the towering Outeniqua Mountains and do the 15 kilometre free-wheel bicycle ride down the historic Montagu Pass, which was built in 1844, back to the hostel.

DAY 4 – Outeniqua Power Van.
Going up into the mountains, past waterfalls and through tunnels, forest and fynbos.
