A great backpackers in the southern Drakensberg

So you’re cruising the magical mystery tour that is South Africa - the wildlife, the beaches - and now... it’s the turn of the mountains. The Drakensberg Mountains, naturally. Nestled at the foot of this mystical mountain range, you’ll find Khotso Backpackers and Horse Trails, your expedition base camp.
Arrive after a short drive from Pietermaritzburg and meet the menagerie - 2 cats, 3 dogs, 300 sheep, 100 horses and the staff, two-legged, who promise to welcome you warmly. Stay in an en suite rondavel with up to 5 of your mates, the log cabin, which sleeps up to 20, a dorm or pitch your tent. The choice is yours.
Head to the farmhouse (en route meeting Simon the horse who spends most of his time in, or outside, the kitchen) for a hearty, home-cooked meal, which you’ll need, as your days at Khotso will be jam-packed with farm-based activities such as canoeing, rafting, tubing with a beer in hand, hiking and horse riding. The more sensible among you will appreciate the well-stocked bar with its ice-cold bevvies, comfortable couches, lazy hammocks, great tunes and refreshing natural pools from which to contemplate life and other such pressing matters.
