• Jolling

Jolling is a wonderful Afrikaans word for PARTYwhy-because-you-canING. And there’s lots of it in Southern Africa because the people are friendly , the beer is cheap and the nightlife whatever you want it to be. This icon tells you when to put on your dancing shoes.

A grand old Victorian building in the thick of the action, within waltzing distance of almost everything a city slicker could need.

Set in the heart of Cape Town at the top of lekker* Long Street, Carnival Court is in the thick of the action and within walking distance of pretty much everything a city slicker could want. The beautifully restored Victorian building offers accommodation that ranges from single and double rooms to 4 or 6-bed dorms with handbasins in all the rooms. Although they have two self-catering kitchens and there’s a supermarket up the road, café’s, restaurants and bars are within easy reach. In fact, you can fall out of the front door and land at a table in the trendy Long Street Café before you’ve blinked twice. On Sundays their bar - Zanzibar - sponsors the salad for a braai that has everyone in the neighbourhood joining the party on the balcony. When it’s time to loosen up, head for the Long Street Baths and swim a few laps of the giant pool or book into the Turkish Baths and enjoy a sauna and massage (just check whether it’s men’s or women’s day first). Their friendly staff will help you get anywhere from the Two Oceans Aquarium to a shark dive - and everywhere in between.
