Set on a huge property with lovely gardens and overlooking the mystical Hogsback Peaks, this is a wonderful backpacker.
The wonderful Away with the Fairies is owned and run by a mad Englishman who came backpacking and never left. Set on a huge property overlooking the mystical peaks of the Hogsback Mountains, you can lounge around reveling in the breathtaking views or cool off in the pool after exploring the magical forests and their beautiful waterfalls.
Numerous hiking trails start at the bottom of the garden, and they offer guided mountain bike trails so there are no excuses for not bumping into a forest fairy or two. Try out your own fairy wings abseiling, or test your climbing skills on the bolted cliff at the bottom of the garden then rub away aches and pains with a massage.
Cape Parrots (there are only about 1 000 in the world) nest in the garden and rare Samango monkeys swing by most days.
End the day with sundowners in the world’s scariest tree-house, then join them in the bar. And hey! Don’t worry about cooking, just tuck into a scrum-diddley-umptious pizza from their pizza oven.
Strider’s Cottage, with its 6 en suite rooms, is great for groups.

Skip step 1. Instead, head out on one of their guided mountain bike trails through the indigenous forests during which you can enjoy waterfalls and off-the-beaten-track viewpoints. Alternatively cycle around the village to various local art and craft centres. Some are away with the fairies, and they might take you with them...
Step 1 and 2 too much for you? Move straight onto step 3.
Step 3: Say a few Hail Mary’s on Hogsback’s most famous abseil - the 45m high Madonna and Child waterfall. If this does it, and you find yourself away with the fairies, there are others to try... Do them. Now fly fairy, fly...
