The Battlefields You can get your fill of historic events here as many Anglo, Boer and Zulu wars were fought here. Numerous bloody battles between the Zulu, English and Afrikaners were fought here. Today many monuments, museums and relics testify to their struggles. Names like Blood River and Isandlwana recall acts of insane heroism when men armed with spears faced a gun-wielding enemy. South Africa has the dubious right of claim to the invention of “guerrilla warfare” – sneaky tactics used by the Boers to harass the British, who in turn practised a “scorched earth” policy and put women and children into concentration camps. Ag shame. Places to Stay
