Port Edward

Port Edward is the last/first South African town before entering the Wild Coast, so it's a little more rugged than towns a few kilometres up the road, and yet a lot more developed than anything in the Wild Coast.

Port Edward is the beginning of the South Coast

Port Edward is a small coastal village with delicious beaches, scrumptiously warm water, tempting arts and crafts, curious whales and dolphins and miles of hiking and horse trails. It’s the gateway to the Transkei with its 280km of unspoilt coastline and breathtaking scenery.
The sardines run in June/July and there are some unusual places of interest such as the Red Desert, the Space Centre and the Umtamvuna Nature Reserve - a sub-tropical jungle paradise full of botanical surprises and over 259 (which is half of Natal’s bird population) bird species.
