Just three hours drive from Bloem and Jo’burg and four from Durban, this pretty little town has streets jammed with galleries, tasty treats and fascinating knick-knacks. On weekends and in season it’s a hive of activity, the rest of the time it slumbers gently to the cooing of doves and the whispering of mountain breezes. Clarens is surrounded by limestone hills and cliffs that glow with warm hues in the sun and are especially striking at dusk and dawn. The Golden Gate and the Northern Berg are a short scenic drive away.
