Bethlehem
The town lies in a valley in the Maluti Mountains.
Situated in a fertile valley in the Maluti Mountains, Bethlehem derives its name from the Hebrew ‘Beit Lechem’ meaning ‘house of bread’, thanks to the wheat that flourishes here. A real steam train runs from Bloem to Bethlehem. It continues through to Maseru in Lesotho, so hop aboard for a trip back in time. Visit the Wolhuterskop Nature Reserve and hike through the bush, keeping your eyes open for Free State fossils and Boer War artefacts.
